Rough Draft Celebration Writing
Writer’s Celebration
(Rough Draft)
Each year Eastern Michigan University holds an annual Celebration of Students Writing, and this year is no different. The celebration is a requirement for those when taking English 121classes. It’s a way for students to explore others other pieces of writing and see what other classes has came up with.
This year the Celebration of Students Writing was held in the Student Center Ballroom. It took place for everyone at 4:00 and was held until 5:30.
Students who are taking English 121 joined together as a class and work on a piece of writing that they’ve researched throughout most of the semester. When the project is done, students then display their work to faculty members, family and friends. “I invited my older sister who two years ago had the same class as myself just to see my work”, said freshman Shay Washington.
Each class has a booth so when others come by and visit they can explain what they’ve done and why. There’s a variety of different topics, idea’s and games students come up with. Some classes do something like a game so that there peer’s can interact in there project. Others may do something like trivia questions or facts about a certain topic that most may pay no attention to. One booth was set up telling real and factual facts about having nose surgery and what’s being used in one’s nose. On the table there was an operation game and a big nose displayed made out of play do. Basically giving facts about what’s surgeons really use when changing one nose job.
The Celebration of Writing is a way for students to be creative, to have fun when giving facts about the world around us. Students take pride in what they’ve decided to do and each year there’s something different.
Not only is the Celebration of Students Writing free but because it’s crammed pack with students in all English 121 classes’ drinks, food and candy are complimentary as you walk from booth to booth.

Celebration of Student Writing
In which ways can you be creative as an class?
April 8, 2010.
Each year Eastern Michigan University holds an annual Celebration of Students Writing, and this year is no different. Because this is an even that is carried on every year It makes it that much harder to come up with different titles, attractions and just something that hasn’t already been done in the previous years. The celebration is a requirement for those when taking English 121 classes. It’s a way for students to explore others other pieces of writing and see what other classes has came up with.
This year the Celebration of Students Writing was held in the Student Center Ballroom. It took place for everyone at 4:00 p.m. and was held until 5:30 p.m.
Students who are taking English 121 joined together as a class and work on a piece of writing that they’ve researched throughout most of the semester. There isn’t an exact amount of how many students are in attendance, but at least around 300-400 students. Not including family members and faculty members who are invited. When the project is done, students then display their work to faculty members, family and friends. “I invited my older sister who two years ago had the same class as myself just to see my work”, said freshman Shay Washington. Washington then went on to explain how for her project her class had to observe a community of their choice. After observing their community they then made a candy wrapper, which had something to do with, they’ve done. “I made a candy wrapper with the last name of the family I watched and observed for the week,” said Washington.

Some classes do something like a game so that there peer’s can interact in there project. Others may do something like trivia questions or facts about a certain topic that most may pay no attention to. One booth that captured many students attention was called Rhino Plastry. It was set up with many facts surrounding the bored explaining exactly what it is. Rhino Plastry is a nose procedure done for both women and men. Looking around at the faces and non-verbal movements, some students were intrigued with what they saw. “I have never heard of this type of nose job before, that’s one of the main reasons why I stopped to take a peak,” said visitor Antoinette Collier. Also on the table with the fun facts there was the game Operation on the table as well as a huge nose. The nose, which is made from Play-Doh, is just a representation of what doctors may use to understand how their patients wants their nose to look like.
There was a lot of interacting with one another, students standing at their tables inviting member to come and see what they have put together. There was a young lady who was screaming to the to of her lungs for people to come and dive in her Dumpster Diving showcase for candy. The big cardboard box was filled with paper, bags, cardboard and everything else making it harder to find little pieces of candy.

Natural Distruction
April 18, 2010 Diversion Dance group put on a spring concert, which was held at Pease Auditorium. I was able to attend the concert and capture some footage which is posted up above. Before the event started we were giving a little history on Diversion dance group. They were started and founded by a young lady named Mary Young in 1999, and every since then they have managed to be successful and well known throughout campus. Diversion is a dance group who dances to variety of music and art, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Rock and R&B.
The event was called Nature Disaster and each dance that were performed had a meaning to it. In the first video that you see, a young man which I wasn't able to film came out and did a speech about drinking and driving. This was something very important because every minute a student dies from having to much to drink at a party then driving home. It's a natural disaster also because everyone needs to cherish their life and make sure you are a responsible drinker, and making sure you have a designated driver.
Diversion, the dance group also performed to how the society has an huge affect on us. They presented to us how we let others influence us on how we dress, how we should look, and what's right and wrong. In the dance movement they made sure to let us know no matter what one may look like we are all beautiful. We all have beauty and we can be any shade of color and any size, society doesn't make you you, you make yourself the way you are. If you feel beautiful than you are beautiful. This peace was very touching and true, and being a college student I felt like everyone that was there was paying close attention. As a college student I know we sometimes feel like we have to look like our favorite celebrity rather than being comfortable in our own selves.

"I had fun, my roommates and I were invited and didn't have much to do so we went and it was nice," said Junior Kenesha Long.
There was at least 10 different scenes and pieces, and even though I captured only a little you can see exactly what I mean. I found it amazing how they incorporate dance to tell a story about life's many struggles, and that's what I wanted to capture in the video above.

Celebration of Writing
On Thursday April 8, 2010 I was able to attend the Writers Celebration in the Ballroom at the Student Center. It was really nice, much hasn't changed since I was apart of the celebration. The entire Ballroom was filled with students, faculty members and other people as well. When walking around the Ballroom I looked at the many different projects and posters.
Before I started filming I just walked around like I was a visitor, students were stopping me and inviting me to join them at there booth. One particular booth that I remember right off the back is when student's in one particular class had to study either a family, event and or place. Once they were done they made a candy bar wrapper somewhat describing what they saw. As I looked at the display there were candy wrappers with there favorite basketball star, a name where a student studied a family and lastly a wrapper with different colors on it. The student followed an even called L.G.B.T.Q. (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer). They attended the events and went to there many speeches, and when it came to doing the candy wrapper they had the word color spelled out in different colors that represent the L.G.B.Y.Q group.

Dela's Fashion Show
Covering The Fashion Show.
On March 17, there was a fashion show held by the Delta's. It featured fellow students who attend Eastern Michigan University. They modeled clothing from the 80's, workout apparel, formal event clothing, swimwear and many more. The event just like others was welcomed to all students only charging $7.00 for tickets. It was a way to come and support your friends and our family and have fun. In between the show there were skits put on, and the most memorable performance was a tribute to the late Micheal Jackson. It lasted for some time but it was fun and relaxing. Families came out to support there son/daughter in the fashion show as well. This was an event that you would have not wanted to miss.
The video takes a minute to pop up on the youtube. If you would like to see the video quicker than what it shows, click on the youtube icon and type in Jav VID00005.avi. I realized it just takes a longer time to upload on my blog.
